You Should Be Listening presents: Flamy Grant + Andy Sydow w/ Jacob Hery

Flamy Grant: Award-winning and Billboard-charting artist Flamy Grant is a shame-slaying, hip-swaying, singing-songwriting drag queen from western North Carolina. Her 2022 debut record, Bible Belt Baby, reached the #1 spot on the iTunes Christian Charts (the first drag performer to achieve this feat), was nominated for Best Pop Album at the San Diego Music Awards, and was named one of the Top Ten Queer Country Albums of 2023 by Rainbow Rodeo Magazine. Her single “Good Day” also debuted at #20 on the Billboard Christian digital sales chart. Flamy is a winner of the 2023 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition and a 2023 QueerX Award nominee for Best Drag Artist and has been featured in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, People, and more. Her music has over 750,000 streams on Spotify, Apple, and Amazon music. A powerhouse vocalist and intrepid songwriter who blends folk, gospel, and roots, Flamy drags you into a therapeutic, theatrical mix of storytelling and song.Andy Sydo: Americana, rock, folk, singer-songwriter Andy Sydow is a jack-of-all-trades. As an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who's lyrics paint a picture of poetic realism, Sydow tours consistently both solo and with a backing band. Throughout the course of a show he’s known to croon an audience with acoustic guitar ballads, sing a few numbers on his lap steel, and even sit down at the keys to show off his surprising boogie-woogie piano chops. He draws comparisons to voices like Paul Simon and Jackson Browne, mixed with a roots rock vibe reminiscent of Tom Petty or Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. 2024 will see the release of a full length album with Anders Osborne that was recorded at Dockside Studios in Maurice, LA. Osborne produced as well as played guitar and sang backing vocals. Mike Dillion provided the percussion, and Casandra Faulconer completed the quartet on bass. Aside from his own career as an artist and songwriter, Sydow has production credits that include: Lauren Frihauf (The Voice, Season 19), Payge Turner (The Voice, Season 19), Ian Mahan, Andy Sydow/AJ Fullerton, Racyne Parker, Veronica May, and Jcallen. He has also worked with several artists scoring horn and string arrangements. Jacob Hery: Growing up deeply rooted in his church in Houston, Texas, Jacob Hery quickly became involved in worship and the music used to glorify God. Inspired by simple melodies and poignant lyricism, Jacob was mentored through the recorded worship of Kari Jobe, Christy Nockels, and Lauren Daigle.  After coming out as gay, Jacob began deconstructing his faith. This deconstruction process has brought more honesty and authenticity to his writing. Now emboldened by Semler and Maddie Zahm, Jacob has reconstructed his faith and continues to compose congregational worship anthems; unafraid to confront uncertainty and comment on the Church's injustices.  With over nine years of experience leading worship, Jacob feels called by God to sing a new song for the progressive and deconstructing Christian. Writing from a place of sometimes painful honesty, Jacob employs worship to ask God the questions that are often left out of traditional Contemporary Christain Music in hopes of reaching those affected by religious trauma; inviting them back to the table of a radically inclusive God.

Coy Roy - Bo Rinehart of Needtobreathe

Coy Roy - Bo Rinehart of Needtobreathe

The artistry of Coy Roy bids listeners to FEEL their way through sonic experiences by distilling emotion into sound. Grammy nominated songwriter Bo Rinehart, aka COY ROY, brings the brand of boyish innocence and raw honesty that fans have become familiar with during his nearly twenty year run as a primary songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with his former band NEEDTOBREATHE. During his tenure in NTB, he wrote staples such as "Brother" (feat. Gavin DeGraw), "Hard Love", "Multiplied", and "Something Beautiful" and dozens of others. The early musical influences of Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel contributed to the embodiment of the art rock genre for Coy Roy. Current influences from a spectrum of like-minded artists such as Noah Kahan, Brandon Flowers, Bon Iver, and Madison Cunningham show up in the mastery of storytelling and connection with listeners. Reintroducing himself as Coy Roy, the artist's debut single "I'm Right Here" champions the story of surviving childhood sexual abuse and gives voice to others. The "I'm Right Here" song and video reflect awareness and reconciliation with self through inner child work. Latest single, "Doing the Best I Can" recounts the struggles of trauma related coping mechanisms in adulthood and the ongoing journey to self-healing. The music of Coy Roy instills raw emotion and creates visceral experiences with beautiful melodic landscapes amidst disorganized sonic rhythms.

Heath Green & The Makeshifters

Heath Green & The Makeshifters

All Ages Event

$20 Advance Tickets - On Sale Now!

Heath Green:

You would think that with all of the attention being paid to the resurgence of Alabama soul music that someone like Heath Green would surely be on the radar of every A&R guy out of Nashville by now, yet for someone who has been quietly plying his trade for well over 15 years, Mr. Green has somehow managed to avoid the spotlight due to a lifetime of patience, hard luck, and working man’s caution. As a longtime fixture on the Birmingham music scene through groups like Mudpie, Fishergreen, and the Back Row Baptists, Green has carved out a reputation as one of the finest songwriters and performers around, combining gritty storytelling born out of the dirt and red clay of his home state with an electric delivery that’s on par with the best soul men of the modern era. Having toiled countless hours at dive bars and late-night haunts that have served as the real-time backdrop for his ongoing musical canvas, Green’s penchant for “tell it like it is” songwriting has made him a favorite among local scenesters in the Magic City music community, weaving tried and true tales of desperation, redemption, and devil-may-care attitude into a cohesive whole worthy of Delta blues relics twice his age.

But that’s really only half of the story. Having grown up on a steady diet of Stones, Faces, Humble Pie, and a lifetime of wanting to capture the live fire of artists like Ike & Tina Turner and the Joe Cocker/Leon Russell nexus, Heath’s uncanny ability to channel the best of his musical heroes is truly a sight to behold. From sidelong stage shimmies and full blast soul screams, to exorcising rock n’ roll demons with plaintive pleas for mercy and salt-of-the-earth salvation, there are few modes of musical catharsis his sonic world leaves untouched.

The Pink Stones + Elijah Johnston

$12 Advance Tickets On Sale Now!

The Pink Stones are made up almost entirely of Athens musicians who play in other bands around town. They add their own twists to spacey honkytonk, pedal-to-the-metal trucker anthems, and ecstatic gospel. The Pink Stones play country music, yet all the pedal steel sobs, the two-steppin’ rhythms, twangy harmonies, and lyrics about broken hearts and long days on the road are launchpads for wild experiments and unexpected stylistic forays.

Elijah Johnston is a singer-songwriter from Athens, GA whose songs bridge the conversational songwriter fare of now and the hooky guitar based music of the past.
