Dawson Hollow Brings the Ozarks to Birmingham 🎶
Date: July 9, 2025
Location: Woodlawn Theatre, Birmingham, AL
There’s something about family bands that just hits differently—maybe it’s the harmonies, the unspoken chemistry, or the sheer chaos of keeping five siblings on the road together. Whatever it is, Dawson Hollow has it in spades. And lucky for Birmingham, they’re bringing all that magic to the Woodlawn Theatre for one unforgettable night.
So, who is Dawson Hollow?
If you haven’t had the joy of discovering them yet, here’s your intro: Dawson Hollow is an American indie-folk-rock band formed in 2016 by five siblings from the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. But their story doesn’t start there—they’ve actually been playing music together since 2001, and it shows in their seamless sound and electric stage presence. Think cinematic pop with the nostalgic string vibes of Americana, all wrapped up in five-part “blood harmonies” that will hit you right in the feels.
Their music is “hopeful, high-energy, and full of heart,” with sonic nods to The Avett Brothers, Beach Boys, Switchfoot, Beatles, Need to Breathe, Mumford and Sons, and Dayglow.
Born into the band
Being siblings, Dawson Hollow didn’t have a dramatic Craigslist-bandmate-meets moment. As they put it:
“Music was just a part of living in the Link household. Our mother is a music teacher and got us started.”
Yeah—talk about a musical upbringing. The band clearly inherited the family gift and the work ethic.
What’s tour life like with your siblings?
Here’s where it gets interesting. Touring as a family is its own brand of madness, but Dawson Hollow makes it work—with one key ingredient:
“We have learned to always bring good will to the table for each other and that really makes this and any job worth it.”
Respect.
Their most meaningful moment on the road
While their journey has had high points, they’ve also weathered heartbreaking lows. When asked about the hardest experience they’ve faced on tour, the band shared:
“Losing our cousin in a wreck right after she left one of our shows was the hardest touring moment for us. We came to the wreck site and were the only family there that night. Made us really question the value of creating this art. The experience really made us work harder at excellence. She believed in the music and we want to honor her memory with every note we play.”
That kind of depth and honesty bleeds into their music—it’s raw, it’s real, and it’s part of what makes Dawson Hollow stand out.
Back on the road
After a short touring break (lead singer Ben and his wife just welcomed a baby—congrats!), Birmingham is their first stop. So yes, you’re getting peak Dawson Hollow energy. The band’s excited to shake off the rust and connect with fans again.
What’s in store at Woodlawn?
Expect "real music, hype, interaction and hopefully a smashing great time!" They’re bringing all the new material and fan favorites—each member has a different song they love to play live, especially from their latest album.
And when asked which songs of theirs they are sick of playing live, they answered emphatically, “NONE!”
Road trip rituals: gas station coffee, podcasts, and broken stereos
When it comes to life on the road:
Who drives the most? Kyle’s got the wheel, mostly.
Music or AirPods? Mostly AirPods these days—van stereo’s busted (rock star life, baby).
Favorite gas station snack? “Ohhh!....... COFFEE!”
Last podcast played? Blurry Creatures—they’re all into it.
Birmingham memories
They were here last year and clearly haven’t forgotten the vibe:
“People were down to party and dance and the food was SO GOOD!”
So let’s run it back, Birmingham. Show them how we do it.
What’s next for Dawson Hollow?
They’re always on the lookout for what’s fresh:
Artists to watch? Djo and Dayglow are at the top of their radar.
Dream tourmates? Young the Giant—they shared a festival stage in Tampa and would love to team up again.
No word yet on the next record release date, but you can bet it’s in the works. In the meantime:
“Follow us on Instagram and Spotify, that and attending live music shows truly helps indie bands like us!”
