Meet Glom: Alt-Rock Energy from NYC with a Heart for the Road 🎸

Date: July 15, 2025
Location: Woodlawn Theatre, Birmingham, AL

If you’re the type who gets nostalgic about 90s alt-rock but wants a modern twist with punch, heart, and a few laughs along the way—Glom is your new favorite band. They’re rolling into Birmingham for their first-ever show here, and if frontman Sean Dunnevant has anything to say about it (and he will), it’s going to be a night to remember.

What’s Glom all about?

Their vibe? Think The Beatles meets Smashing Pumpkins, with the fuzz and edge of Sonic Youth, the dreamy textures of My Bloody Valentine, and the catchy energy of Third Eye Blind. Basically, it’s 90s alt-rock inspired fun music—no pretension, all punch.

The origin story

Glom isn’t one of those thrown-together industry bands. These guys have history.

“We all grew up in the DC area and played in various bands and eventually converged into one project. Jordan (drums) and I went to high school together as well.”

You can feel that chemistry in their live shows—tight, loose, and full of personality all at once.

Flyover cities are the real MVPs

You might expect them to rave about L.A. or New York, but Glom keeps it real:

“Any of the 'fly-over' cities because they love music more than anyone else I’ve ever seen.”

Which makes Birmingham the perfect next stop on their map.

When your van almost derails the show...

Glom is no stranger to tour chaos. Their latest misadventure? A busted alternator right before a show in Atlanta. But in true road-warrior fashion:

“Luckily the mechanic got there with enough time to swap it out before our set and we were able to make it back on our drive towards Florida.”

Crisis averted. Rock and roll continues.

Sleepless in Minneapolis

And then there’s the hotel story - when your van won’t fit in the parking deck… you park on the street.

“We could see the van from our room and people were taking pictures of it and looking in the windows so it was a pretty sleepless night… but luckily nothing was missing when we woke up lol.”

Tour life—never dull.

What's hot on the Glom setlist?

The band’s favorite songs to play live these days (look for their eyes to light up a little brighter and the volume to tick up to 11)

On the road with Glom: snacks, books & soundtracks

  • Who drives the most? Sean admits:

“I have control issues so I definitely start off the tour driving the most…”

  • Listening setup? The van stereo’s alive and well, but apparently, the backseat crew might be vibing solo with their AirPods.

  • Best gas station snack? Without hesitation: Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets. IYKYK.

  • Last audiobook on the road? Not a big podcast crew, but they’ve been into “Our Band Could Be Your Life”—a classic for indie heads.

  • Favorite book?

“Stoner by John Williams.” (We see you, literary Glom.)

What’s Birmingham in for?

This will be Glom’s first time playing Birmingham as a band (Sean’s old group hit The Nick twice… sounds like it got wild). But this time around, it’s all about creating good vibes.

“I want people to feel welcome and have a great time so I’ll talk to everyone a lot before the show and in between songs. I want Glom shows to be a place where people can have a laugh and enjoy some music.”

Yes. Yes to all of that.

Glom’s dream TOUR and bands to watch

  • Dream tourmates? Weezer. We feel that.

  • Who are they watching? A band called Bleary Eyed— who actually played at the Theatre last September. Small (indie) world.

No official word on the next Glom record just yet, but if their current energy is any sign, it’s gonna be worth the wait.
